I have been watching the website listing now for the past few days. The price just keeps going up. It has at least finally met the reserve and will sell.

However, the price is way too high for me. The buy it now price is over 4 times what I was going to bid, and the current bid is still more than 3 times. It would take several years to make the money back just based on the ad sales and the affiliate income.

Not to mention the fact that I could easily buy ads on the site or buy ads anywhere else for far less money if my only goal was to sell more of my products. It just doesn’t make sense to spend that much on the site.

Realistically, I could clone the site for almost nothing, and then spend the money on ads to generate the same user base that this site has. It had about 10,000 subscribers on the email list. At $5 per subscriber, it would still be cheaper than just buying the site.

It would take time, where this site would be ready to go now, but still the time doesn’t justify the price. The more annoying thing is the fact that this site took off in bids where my sites sell for 1 month’s worth of profit.

It is listings like this, though, that make me want to get back out there and start selling sites. IF I just have one site take off, it could easily justify all the other sites I have listed. Now, I am looking for new ways to promote some items.

I would like to get back to selling, but not through eBay. I want to sell through my sites, so that I can then sell the site off later on. I just need some new promotions or ads to get things going.
