Day 89: Exit Interview…of Sorts

I don’t actually know what the process is in quitting. When I am not a direct employee, I typically just tell who I work for that I am leaving, and let them tell everyone else. Sometimes, the company I am with likes to get a head start finding my replacement so that my position isn’t filled by another company. After giving my resignation, I haven’t heard anything else and was getting a little nervous that I was supposed to be telling people.

However, today we had pizza for lunch for the team for meeting goals. The guy I report to come over for some and after he loaded up a plate, he asked if I had a few minutes. We then tried to find some place to talk. I figured this would be it since majority of the team wasn’t near us, and he still wanted to go somewhere else to talk.

It wasn’t the greatest exit interview I had to do. He mainly seemed interested in the plate of pizza, and I am pretty sure he would do nothing about my concerns anyway. He never really liked conflict, so the chances were good he would keep everything I told him to himself and not try to bother anyone.

Really, though, I don’t care since I am leaving. I just wanted to make sure they knew about it, and I wasn’t supposed to be telling them. A few people I worked with told me about times they left a position, gave their notice, the person who got the notice didn’t tell anyone, and on their last day, nobody knew they were leaving.

Now, I know that they know, and I can safely tell everyone else without having to worry about anyone getting a head start on finding my replacement.
