Day 116: Not Liking the Laptop

My work laptop isn’t very nice. The lid rattles and doesn’t stay in place, and the battery doesn’t last more than an hour. The trackpad also isn’t very responsive which makes scrolling hard. All in all, I am not really liking it.

After waiting so long to get it, I was really hoping I would get something nicer than this.

Not only is the laptop itself below average, but I also don’t have admin rights on it. I can’t install all the developer tools I normally use on it without raising requests to have someone else do it for me.

This isn’t the best way to start out, and I will likely spend time trying to find a way around all these security restrictions.

It also doesn’t help that I still don’t have a security badge, so I am calling people in the lobby to let me in. With the laptop, I can get on Skype, making it another way of contacting people asking if they will come get me.

The new job isn’t too great as of now, but I don’t have any regrets leaving yet. I think there is the potential for it to be far better than what I was doing, but it’s taking a lot of time to ramp up.

If I could get my badge and a better seat, things would be great. Now, though, I am stuck in a room with a chair I don’t like, and a bright blue badge that says an escort must be with me at all times.
