Day 7: Potential Client Work

Slight issue with the shirts I recently sold, I don’t actually have them. The big issue with this is the cost of shipping is relatively high, but is fairly consistent regardless of how many shirts I buy. Buying just 1 makes the shirt expensive, but buying more lets me average out the cost of shipping to each shirt. I had to buy more than I needed.

Some good news, though. As previously mentioned, this whole plan isn’t entirely brand new. Last year, I was able to get three clients, two of which paid pretty well. The third was more one-off work that would pop up making my total billable time 1 or 2 hours for the month.

All three of them I got through referrals. Two of them were direct and the third was one who found me on LinkedIn. After talking about the work I did, one project that came up was a project they had a friend on. Since I worked with his friend previously, I had a slight advantage and was offered the work.

This isn’t a real repeatable system, since it was basically luck that all three even hired me. But it does mean that keeping up with previous contacts can really pay off. Anyway, one of the higher paying clients contacted me today. They need more work done and wanted to know if I would be interested in coming back.

This is fairly consistent income, but since it is specific client work, it really takes up a lot of time. I cannot put this work on autopilot and it doesn’t really scale. I have to be the one doing the work. However, this is closer to where I want to be than having a bunch of items listed on eBay.
