Day 10: Found a Product
So after relying solely on eBay, I finally found a white label product that seems worth pursing. It is something that is valuable to have, looks nice, and more importantly, has room for improvement.

Profit from eBay sales today was less than $2, not a very good day. I did get an order from my own ecommerce site, though! The nice part about that is there isn’t the 10% eBay fee associated with the transaction.

eBay is still the only thing I have going. Even with the possibility of doing client work, I still want something else bringing in income, just in case. I am thinking more and more about a white label product, something that’s almost ready to be released, but I could improve upon.

Slight issue with the shirts I recently sold, I don’t actually have them. The big issue with this is the cost of shipping is relatively high, but is fairly consistent regardless of how many shirts I buy. Buying just 1 makes the shirt expensive, but buying more lets me average out the cost of shipping to each shirt. I had to buy more than I needed.

Coming off a big day of eBay sales, today has been pretty quiet. eBays ales today are about 1/6th of what they were yesterday. Other than that, nothing else happened.

I sold some shirts! Were the Facebook ads finally justified? Well, no. The shirts I sold actually came from eBay and had nothing to do with the Facebook ads. Today will be the last day I let the ads run.

With eBay sales picking up, I realized I don’t enough shipping supplies to ship out all the orders. The supplies will cut into the profit, but I have no way around it. The Facebook ads promoting the shirts are still running, but the results aren’t too great. I am getting clicks, likes, and shares, but no sales. The other issue I think may be a costly mistake is I have no other football related shirts. I am targeting fans of college football to show them 1 shirt design only.

I had an idea for a shirt design. The bad news is, it was a quote from a coach during a bowl game a couple days ago. I really should have created the shirt then when it was popular. I have a feeling I could have waited too long. I am hoping I can at least get some new visitors, though, even if they don’t buy this design, I can at least re-target them later.

Well, today hasn’t been much more productive than yesterday. I have been trying to figure out where to even start, and eBay sales still seems like the best option. I am trying to get some other idea going, mainly along the lines of the subscription sites to be able to scale. The downfall to eBay is I have to be doing working in order to have money coming in. Starting off, that’s not a big deal, but eventually there will be a time when I just don’t have time to do everything.

I was really hoping to start off with a well defined plan of attack, something I could use to hit the ground running and begin making money right now. However, college football bowl games ruined that. I have a few ideas, but honestly, I spent most of the day watching football. This is not the best way to start out.
To get things going quickly, I will be hitting up eBay hard. This sounds a little like cheating given that I am a software developer and I plan on using a platform that already exists that requires no development. However, I have a good reason why it’s not cheating. That reason is, eBay is my testing grounds.
